The Truth About Charlie

Plot: A woman finds out that her husband of only several months has a hidden secret which a group of individuals are trying to figure out. They want millions that Charlie has hidden and they believe his wife(Thandie) has it. She meets a good looking strange man(Wahlberg) and as she falls for him she starts to worry that he wants the money like the others. Then it just gets crazy.

Acting: With a weird script like this I enjoyed the acting. Thandie Newton who we've seen in MI:2 which I thought was fun but not the best John Woo movie. Anyway, she did a very nice job and was cute and did what she needed to and I hope to see her in more stuff later on. Wahlberg I think took this one too seriously and over acted way too much through out the entire thing. Newton and Wahlberg did not work well together to me and as much as Thandie tries to bring life to the scene it dies. The only amazingly funny job is by Tim Robbins who I think knew what he was getting into and decided to have fun with it. I enjoyed every second he was on screen.

Directing/Writing: Okay, I don't know what this movie was trying to do. At first I thought it was trying to be some mystery thriller of some kind with really off the wall style. Towards the end I think they gave up and decided off the wall was a good idea. Pointless scenes start to pop up everywhere and you start to get really confused. For example one second Thandie is scared to death by a group of people chasing her but suddenly after this one guy gets a heart attack. They all seem to be okay with each other and she actually cries as one of them dies. Things started to speed up and become sort of insane and wild. They style was actually interesting to me and I think they were trying to make fun of suspense thrillers. If that is not what they were going for then this movie just blows. It must be moking something because the ending is so funny and out of no where you just leave the movie theatre laughing and feeling good. So besides all the messy stuff this movie tried to pull off the way it was shot at first almost made me sick. So maybe they were trying to make this a one of a kind type of movie, and they did but it just was not very good.

Overall: This is a movie some people should study because it either REALLY feel apart or it is trying to be an art film or it is trying to make a statement. I really don't know and I don't think I will ever know what this movie was trying to do. It made me laugh a lot so that is good but otherwise this is one hell of a crazy movie.
