Plot: Nigeria has become a dangerous place a Muslin rebel group is killing every Christian possible in the country. Bruce Willis and six other Navy Seals are sent in to extract a doctor (Monica Bellucci) from a village. She won't leave without the people from the camp. So they must travel through the jungle while being chased by almost thousands of ruthless rebel troops. Willis's character must make a choice that will change his life and his men's life's. Battle scenes and Willis owning ensues.
Acting: OK I know Bruce Willis action movie right? Can't have good acting right? Wrong jack ass!!! The great acting in this movie is what keeps it on its feet. Bruce is on a role in my books with Sixth Sense then Unbreakable and now in this. Willis was not the only actor who did a good job the other guys who played the Navy Seals did their work and were really believable. I must comment on Monica Belucci. I have seen all her foreign movies and they were great. I knew of her way before this movie and I am glad she has broken in. She is great and is more real then the actresses out there. Just to note she is going to be in the Matrix sequels and that is exciting. Anyway back to this movie, this cast is what really made this movie good. Hey, even the bad guy who had like three lines did a good job.
Directing/Writing: I must say this movie surprised me. I thought it was not okay to have African bad guys. I always thought it would cause some kind of political shaking. I guess we as a country are finally not letting all this stuff get to us so badly and just make movies. Anyway, why I think this movie worked for me so well is it felt so real. Other movies about the military but aren't based off a "true" story usually are not the best. This was one of the best military action movies I have ever seen. I think that has to be the great directing by Antoine Fuqua who made Training Day which got Denzel an Oscar. I think Fuqua just knows how to show actors in good light and makes them really act. Everything was great in this movie. The darkness at the start and the pure feeling of what Africa must be like. What stood out to me was the truth that this movie gave. What actually African rebel groups would do which don't read even in history books was brought into light in this movie and I was going crazy, I loved it so much!!! Oh yeah the action very good had a Proof Of Life reality to it with a grand scheme battle idea at the end. I personally needed a movie like this to come out to save me from all the crap and man this helped. Also this movie has real hero's who give up everything to save some people they don't even know. Just great I hope Fuqua does more movies like this one in the future.
Overall: The timing for this movie to come out was bad with the war in Iraq coming. I don't think many people will want to see military men fighting off rebel soldiers. They would rather see Steve Martin and a fat black woman do there thing. That is fine. But if you have the time go see this movie it really would be worth it.
