SWAT

Columbia Pictures presents an Original Film/Camelot Pictures/Chris Lee Production

Starring: Samuel L. Jackson Colin Farrell Michelle Rodriguez LL Cool J

Directed by: Clark Johnson

Rating:***1/2

Plot: After a mistake is made in a hostage crises Farrell and his partner made what they thought was the right decision, sadly the department thought otherwise, Colin's partner leaves the force while Farrell stays. Later Hondo(Jackson) and old dog police officer comes back to head a new SWAT team. Their mission is to transport this French ass hole to a prison but sadly he makes an offer to anyone who can get him out of police custody, he will give them "One hundred million dollars!!!", (Great line) and then bad guys come out of everywhere including Farrell's ex-partner and then the gun games begin.

Acting: I have always loved Colin Farrell, I loved Tigerland his first film and everything since. His only bad movie is American Outlaws and when he is at his best (MINORITY REPORT,Phone Booth) its amazing to watch him do his thing. I really loved him as Bullseye in Daredevil clearly one of the best villian performances in a while. Anyway he does a great job in this movie being the cool white boy of the team. He is such a bad ass you just can't hate him. Samuel L. Jackson is simply the fucking man!!! I love this guy in everything, Jesus I love Mace Windu. So that is all you need to know about his performance. The rest of the cast is okay I guess I actually really liked LL Cool J in this no matter how stupid his name sounds. He just has really good timing. Michelle Rodriguez has never been giving parts where she can act, and she can act. She just plays the "bad ass chick" in this movie and does not do much. The rest of the cast are a bunch of white guys who either get shot or do nothing. Ohh yeah and how can I forget Oliver Martinez he plays the dirty French man with the 100 million dollar line. This guy was great he has this attitude where he knows he is good looking and a bad ass, and so you can really hate him. Great job Martinez even though I will still never forget him in Unfaithful one of the hardest movies to ever watch.

Directing/Writing: I heard this movie was going to be made a while ago with Arnold in the cast and along with him a hard R rating. I am sure the studio destroyed the script to make it pg-13 and that is just expected now a days. I was really looking forward to this movie being a big Samuel L. Jackson fan and a Colin Farrell fan but this movie doesn't really deliver. The first half does I'll give you that, actually I really loved the first half of this movie! The opening scene is these bad guys robbing a bank and its just really well filmed with a mix of what seemed to be DV camera's. Then when Jackson is making his team its also really great, great dialogue, great timing, scene structure I mean its one fucking great first half. The soundtrack even rocks. Once the bad guy tries to escape the police is when the movie starts to flaw. The action is cut down to a point that they use weird cuts and weird timing to not show blood. Then everything starts to feel like a "been there and done that" type of movie. With a plane landing on a bridge and blah blah blah. The one major mistake is in the trailer they show this what seems to be a war on the street with gang bangers blowing shit up everywhere. In the movie the scene is really short and pointless and like one person dies which makes no sense what so ever. Also notable plot points is trying to get Colin Farrell a love interest in the movie, first he is dating one of his SWAT partners sisters, then later he and Rodriguez are hitting on each other, then the movie drops both of them. So why exactly did you have either the scene's with Farrell and Rodriguez getting along and flirting and talking are really great, those two have chemistry on screen and they dropped it like it was nothing. So this action movie fell short of what I thought it was going to be.

Overall: I did enjoy myself and it is a fun ride with great characters all over, its just when it gets to the climax everything seems redone and not really original. After Bad Boys 2 this movie fell short of being an all out great action film. But its all good.
