Stealth
Columbia Pictures presents
Starring: Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel, Jamie Foxx, Sam Shepard
Directed by: Rob Cohen
Rating: ****
Plot: Three top notch pilots who fly three of the only kind of super sonic fighter planes have a new team mate. The Navy's newest toy a jet piloted by artificial intelligence or for you not so bright, a robot. EDI which stands for something can do anything plus more than any human fighter pilot. The three pilots must work with the robo-jet and teach it their skills. After an accident the plane begins acting on its own will and makes its own decisions, which could lead to the third World War. Shit blowing up real good and one of the best surprises lately for me ensues.
Acting: I don't even remember what John Lucas has been in before, I think he was in a chick flick movie, I don't know. I must say he is a bad ass in this movie and takes the action leading role thing head on and it worked. I hope this movie boosts him into stardom. Jessica Biel who I think is one of the more down to Earth actresses around does quiet well here too playing a pretty down to Earth bad ass girl. Jamie Foxx simply had fun making this movie, he has a lot of one liners, some fall hard other will make you laugh. His character was not very realistic when saying things like "That's hot" when the robo plane flies past. Though it works in this movie, because if you take this movie too seriously you're going to have a bad time. This movie is pop corn fun all the way with some actual great work for these three actors. Why do I say great? All of the fighter plane action was CGI so all these actors could see was green when filming, and hell when they were nervous about a pissed off robot plane wanting to destroy them, I believed them.
Directing/Writing: You might look at my rating for this movie and go "It's better than Batman Begins or War of the Worlds?". Not its not but for what it is, it is simply amazing. This is what summer movies are so suppose to be. I had a great time from beginning to end the movie never lets up. They actually toss in a lot of twists too which many will not expect. I don't want to ruin anything for the readers but I will say you will be surprised in this movie. It also actually deals with major issues in America, not robot killer fighter planes but the issue of man vs. machine in the job field. Also about how war should be fought, should it be considered like a video game to get things accomplished? Big issues dealt in a movie most I believe would pass off as rubish. The CGI in the film is stunning the fighter planes look real and the air fights are done in style with a realistic tone and it really impressed me. When in most movies with a lot of CGI they go for the extreme, here they tried to keep things reality based in a sci-fi action concept. The most cost a lot of money and I am not sure if it will make all of it back. I sure hope it does because Stealth is seriously in a sense the first perfect summer action movie. I'm not saying it is the best film of the summer or like it deserves any Oscars, well maybe is computer graphics, but that's it. But if your looking for a hell of a good ride this movie is it.
Overall: Great time, seriously this movie is what the summer is about. Robot fighter planes, big explosions, North Koreans, Jamie Foxx what else do you want? Ninja's? Okay it was missing that but seriously this is the best ride you'll have this summer.
