Solaris
Twentieth Century Fox presents a Lightstorm Entertainment production.
Starring: George Clooney Natascha McElhone
Written and Directed by: Steven Soderbergh
Plot: Set in the future a scientist(Clooney) who lost his wife is sent up to a space station near what seems to be a sun spot of a weird planet called Solaris. The problem is that they lost contact with the station and it looks bad. When Clooney goes up there he finds out that Solaris can make almost carbon copies of someone in your memories and his wife(Natascha) returns and then the mystery starts.
Acting: Thank god George is doing this for some reason I can only remember him in Batman and Robin. He does a pretty good job in this movie. He seems like a robot through a lot of it but I got the fact that he was upset of his wife's death. Natascha who played the wife was very good and did an actually great job at being creepy when she seems to come back from the dead. The supporting cast was okay they did not do much or say very much so I can't really say they were wonderful. Clooney really does deserve the credit for this movie because without him I don't think this movie would have worked.
Writing/Directing: I love Steven Soderbergh he is my favorite director and he
has not let me down yet. This movie is so well put together it made me want to
cry at how good it was. I saw this after I saw Harry Potter and you learn to
respect really good movies when you see them. He used light and dark and the
atmosphere to make this movie go beyond the screen. He messes with the idea of
god and resurection and makes a clear statement at the end about heaven and god
and it really makes you go "Wow good stuff". Sadly I don't think this movie will
do well because it is too smart of a concept for most people. I think people
will go into that movie thinking different ideas of what they are going to see.
Some will want a romance and some will want a space thriller. You get more
romance then anything else but it is freaky in places. I just think the
advertising for this movie was not well done. At first I thought it would be
some kind of thriller, but then a trailer later I thought it was a romance and
then I saw one more trailer and I thought it was something like 2001 Space
Odessey. So I was not even sure what I was really going to see when I went into
the theatre.
Overall: Great movie one that I think should be remembered through film history. Will it make a bang at the box office? No not at all but it will give you smart people out there a treat because this is one hell of a good movie, and ladies you see Clooney's ass for about 2 minutes straight. They should have just had the adds go around that I can see it now..... Solaris: A futuristic romance, WHERE YOU SEE HIS ASS FOR 2 MINUTES. The box office numbers would be huge.
