The Rundown
Universal Pictures presents
Starring: The Rock Sean William Scoot Christopher Walken and Rosario Dawson
Directed by: Peter Berg
Rating:**1/2
Plot: A man under debt from one nasty jack ass has to track down his son in the amazon so he can run a resteraunt. So basically The Rock goes to Brazil and kick some ass. A lot of kick ass fights, Walken acting funny, and guys whipping things and crazy ass gun play all over the place, also sadly very badly written dialogue and plot ensue.
Acting: I never liked wrestling, the only time I ever watched it was to get a laugh but then stopped watching after two minutes. So after The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King I wanted to see if The Rock could actually do a good movie. Now he didn't exactly do a good movie here, but he sure was great. He seriously showed his acting talent and strength in this movie. So the fact he is being put in a lot of action movies is no surprise to me anymore. As long as he stays with this material he will do fine. If he tries to go beyond these types of movies (Which I am sure he will try sooner or later) that will mean failure for sure. Now the rest of the cast actually does not stand up well with The Rock. I don't know how that happened but the other leads excluding Walken who played the villian, well they sucked. Sean William Scott is trying to wipe away the memory of Bullet Proof Monk. I have no clue why he thinks he can do action movies. This guy looks like a ferret or something. He should stay Stiffler and not do anything else. Everything else Scott has done has been horrible: Dude Where's My Car, Evolution, Bullet Proof Monk. I mean god danm that's a lot of wasted film. He does better in this mainly because in every scene he is getting his ass kicked by The Rock. The female lead was Rosario Dawson who I really loved in Streets of New York she was just so real. She really has never had a big break in a movie she was in Men in Black 2 for like two second but that does not count. She plays a rebel leader in the jungle and she is horrible. I understand they are trying to get the "bad ass" chick thing going, but it really didn't work here. All her bitching and moaning and the pride bull shit made me hate the character. The only actor who stole the spot light from The Rock was Christopher Walken who is just the most extreme bad ass. I loved him in this movie. Especially his little speech about the touth fairy to a bunch of his men (Classic). All that came out of this movie acting wise was a pure understanding that Walken is God and The Rock can kick ass.
Directing/Writing: This movie is a seriously high octaine film that slaps you around. I loved the first ten minutes of this movie so much. The Rock goes into this hip hop club. (OH BY THE WAY IN THIS SCENE HE BUMPS INTO ARNOLD WHO GIVES HIM A SMILE AND SAYS SOMETHING AROUND "HAVE A GOOD TIME"... GREATEST THING EVER!!!) So besides that scene. The Rock lays the smack down on some football players. The fight actually makes you go "Ouch" when you watch it. Watching guys face plant into the floor or into a wall. Great stuff. The rest of the movie is well paced and pretty much well filmed. The fights are literal insanity on screen. People flying and diving around everywhere and things exploding. All of this seriously kicks ass. The action scenes are each unique, in one The Rock tosses a table into the air and one of the bad guys splits it in two with a whip. But sadly when a fight is not happening the movies looses its speed. The Rock is clearly a bad ass and he keeps it up. William Scott just can't act and the main plot is just so stupid and pointless. There is some artifact in the jungle which Stiffler... Oops I meant Sean William Scott is looking for. Somehow Walken and his home boys are also looking for it, I guess, whatever. The plot got so stupid I kind of just didn't care but this gave me a weird feeling through the movie. Some of the comedy falls flat and when the movie gets serious nothing works and the actors don't have the talent to make it work. Also something that annoyed me, Rosario Dawson plays a rebel leader correct? Then why were her teeth so white? That was just so annoying!!!
Overall: Some of the most kick ass wire-fu action scenes I have seen in a while. So I was seriously digging that but the rest of the movie falls flat. The only clear thing is the Rock is the Scorpion King.... I mean he is a bad ass and I hope to see him in more fun action flicks. Just hopefully he can get a well written script.
Best line: "That's a lot of cows"-Walken
