Punch-Drunk Love
Revolution Studios/New Line Cinema presents a Joanne Sellar/Ghoulardi film co. production
Starring: Adam Sandler Emily Watson and Philip Seymour Hoffman
Directed by: P.T. Anderson
Plot: One man frustration with life is brought out by very interesting events, one of them happens to be falling in love.
Acting: This is a hard film act in and these actors work off of each other very nicely. I can't stop thinking how funny it is that Philip Seymour Hoffman and Emily Watson are in another movie together and they never meet on screen. Those two actors by the way are great in this movie all the way. I want to talk about Adam Sandler for the moment. I really don't know what to think about him anymore, this is one of the edgiest movies I've ever seen. So I respect him for doing this but at points I couldn't clearly see why. Since he has lately been pouring out these shitty mind wasting movies over the last few years. Now suddenly he does a movie that makes you think and at times makes you laugh. So I was confused watching him do this because I am not generally used to it. He was good over all but in general he was not as stand out as I thought he was going to be.
Directing/Writing: Anderson known for making Boogy Nights and Magnolia has made another amazing movie that makes you really wonder what the fuck was it all suppose to mean. I mean I think this was a romantic comedy or was it just a dark comedy? I can't tell. The real sad thing for me about this movie is they use great sybolism and style and never really twist things together for you it just moves along. It seems like the style was trying to take control of the movie while the context decided to hide and never show its face. I mean this movie is sweet in some places, and funny in some places but it is also disturbing in some places. So how exactly do I categorize this film? I don't think I can and maybe that was the point, but then again the point could have been something completly differen't, are you guys getting my drift?
Over all: Very interesting and very stylish film for 2002 to be remembered for. This character Sandler plays is way more down to earth than regular characters and as he gradualy gets screwed you feel so sorry and pain and your compulsive side comes out you start to have a feeling for this movie, but then they do something to make you think other wise. This is one lovely strange and cute movie that hopefully will get more respect than Magnolia did.
