Phone Booth

Fox 2000 Pictures presents a Zucker/Netter production

Starring: Colin Ferrell Forest Whitaker and Katie Holmes (For about 2 minutes)

Directed by: Joel Schumacher

Rating:*****

Plot: Stu Shepard (Ferrell) who is an over the top obnoxious publicist who is planning on cheating on his wife with a want to be actress, well he makes the wrong choice by answering a ringing phone at a phone booth to find out a serial sniper is on the other end. If he leaves the phone booth he will be shot. Then the games begin.

Acting: This movie is all about acting since the location of the movie barely changes. Colin Ferrell (MINORITY REPORT, The Recruit) does a stand out brilliant job in this movie. His power of controlling the screen keeps you caring. This movie shows how good he is and hopefully will lead him into even more jobs. The rest of the cast does things here and there I love Forest Whitaker and lately he just shows up in movies like Panic Room. He was good but is barely in the movie. Ferrell is the movie and he does everything well we can see real fear or pain in his actions through the movie it was great. Oh yeah good job Katie Holmes for like saying two things through the movie.

Directing/Writing: This I think is one of the better scripts I've seen. For 80 minutes we are in only one set with maybe two characters really and the movie never lets down. The dialogue and the pacing just work. The movie really pulls the audience with it leaving them sitting on the edge of their seat and makes sure to never let down. I was so into the movie that plot points that really wouldn't make sense in real life I didn't care about because all movies do that and this one did it well. I mean this is a thriller that really fucking thrills you. Your with the characters all the way and you don't know what is going to happen and you just get nervous it was great a lot of fun.

Overall: One good intense movie for a time where people need a good thrill from all the stupid comedies out there. This movie was originally suppose to make it to theatres last November but because of the serial sniper was pulled back and for good cause. All I know is I will never answer a ringing pay phone.
