Moonlight Mile

Touchstone Pictures and Hyde Park Entertainment present a Reveal Entertainment/Gran Via/Punch production

Starring: Jake Gyllenhall Dustin Hoffman Susan Sarandon and Holly hunter

Directed by: Brad Silberling

Plot: We follow a sad and slightly awkward family through the crisis of their daughter dieing. With her fiance living with them and with all of them hiding something they all slowly start to open up in their own ways.

Acting: With a plot like this you simply need great actors. This movie had one great actor and two good actors. Dustin Hoffman pulls off an award winning performance in this movie playing a father who just lost a daughter and he blaims himself for it. I felt for him through out the entire movie and I could not keep my consentration on anything but him during the entire movie. His simple ways of smiling at the right time and the fact that his character could not stop moving or cleaning like he was trying to clean out his own sole. Sadly I did not believe Sarandon's character she seems to be a bitch and not care about what happened only what people's reactions were to her daughters death. It's new but I did not see the purpose in it. Jake Gyllenhall from The Good Girl and from one of the worst movies ever made Bubble Boy played the fiance who stays with the parents because of pitty and falls in love with a mail girl while staying there. A great character but sadly Gyllenhall seems like a doll to me. He seems fake all over, especially his hair I did not get that. He seemed unreal through out the movie, like a Ken doll somehow snuck its way onto the set and played the character. He has one moment of life in a court room scene but sadly he needs to be in scenes with Hoffman to stay alive. The scenes with just him didn't work. I also would like to add why exactly was Holly Hunter even in the movie? She has maybe about 7 minutes or so of screen time playing the family's attorney on their daughters murder case.

Directing/Writing: This is one amazing script and a great job by Silberling. I was involved through out the movie and every shot made sense and the timing was perfect. This is the first Oscar contender of the year, nothing else stands close right now. I don't see how anyone could think the violent and pathetic Road To Perdition could even stand up to this movie.

Overall: This movie is touching and will make you wonder about how you would react to a sictuation like that. It also brings up what love is and why love is what it is. This is the one movie I have waited a while to see, minus some acting I did not like that much this is one powerful movie with great messages behind it.
