Catch Me If You Can
Dreamworks presents a Kemp Company production
Directed by: Steven Spielberg
Starring: Leonardo Dicaprio Tom Hanks and Christopher Walken
Plot: A high school boy after his parents divorce decides to run and use his looks and personality to become a con artist. He becomes a air line pilot to a doctor. Once he starts forging checks a sly FBI agent(Tom Hanks) tries to hunt him down.
Acting: Just seeing Gangs of New York several days before seeing this I have came to realize that Leo can act very well. He does such a good job being teenager to an adult in the same movie. So not much to say about Dicaprio except that he is really good and all those dorks who hate him because he was in Titanic can now stay silent. The one actor no one seems to be talking about is Walken who for me steals the scenes he's in. He does a stand out job as the dad of this young crook it was amazing. He has this look to him that you can't get out your head. Sadly Tom Hanks who is always good bothered me in this movie. He was too distracting it was like he didn't belong in the movie but he kept showing up and I lost consentration on the movie. He's funny and I guess he keeps this movie from dieing many times but still it didn't work for me.
Directing/Writing: We all know Spielberg is good, so there is no real point telling you everything he did right in this movie. Its much more fun pointing out the thing that were wrong. I thought the pacing was way off this movie. It starts off fast and then slows down a lot, tries to speed up but then slows down and ends. Too many scenes with him trying to be a pilot and it started to bore me to the point I wanted to sleep, but then Walken came on screen and I was happy again. So with that and one scene with the chick from Alias that had no point and it took up about maybe 10 minutes of my time. Like I guess they wanted to show that Dicaprio's character could get laid once and a while.
Overall: Its fun mostly but way too long. It feels like it goes on for 45 minutes too long actually and even with a great cast you can't save a movie from bad pacing. So you can catch this movie as a rental if you can.
