Adaptation

Columbia Pictures presents with Intermedia films a Magnet/Clinica Estetico production

Starring: Nicolas Cage  Meryl Streep Chris Cooper

Written by: Charlie Kaufman and Donald Kaufman

Directed by: Spike Jonze

Plot: This is about a man trying to adapt a book The Orchid Leaf into a screen play. Problem is it can't be done and as he slowly falls apart he starts putting himself into the script and making a script about how he can't make the script. His brother Donald who makes more lets say popcorn pictures tries to help him out with writing it. So they travel to find the writer of the book to get an idea and trouble ensues.

Acting: This is just simple. I know you've heard this already but Nicolas Cage has done the best work he has ever done in my opinion. He plays both of the Kaufman brothers with such style one is a unique artist and the other comes off as a hack but he does it so well you can connect the both of them. During the movie you will think they are different people it is so amazing. Its like a light of god to see him in this movie after movies like Windtalkers and  Gone in Sixty Seconds which were sadly not very good. Streep has done her best work in years in this movie and it was a good sight to see. Rounding off the cast was Chris Cooper, he plays Laroche a man who is missing some teeth and has a disgusting manner. If Cooper is not nominated for best supporting actor in the Oscars this year, well something is wrong in this world. Actually I think all three of them at least deserve to be nominated for this movie.

Writing/Directing: Well I am very impressed after doing Being John Malcovich this is just stand out one of the best movies I've seen. I can't decide which I like more out of the two. This movie though hit me in places, there are so many moments where you really connect with Kaufman and man that was great. The fantastic thing about this movie is the fact they make fun of how movies are made. The process in which you write a script and it pokes fun at the movie industry. But towards the end they completly turn the ending around and make into a thriller. I didn't think about this until later is that it makes up for making fun of the industry by complementing it by showing the audience that the formula works. The ending is basically random almost but it was done so well that I got caught up in it. I found myself five minutes later laughing my ass off at what they have done. They turned the whole thing around to prove a point. It was great one of the coolest things I've seen on film. So the script by Kaufman and the style and pacing by Jonze was just on the dot.

Overall: I have no idea if any of what I just said made any sense but just take my word for it you will love this movie. If you are a writer of any kind you will REALLY love this movie because it will hit you in the heart. I'm so happy this movie came out its like I've been eating junk food for the last couple months and this was my vegetable.
