The Ring
Dreamworks Pictures presents a Macdonald/Parkes production
Starring: Naomi Watts Martin Henderson
Directed by: Gore Verbinski
Plot: I'm going to try and give nothing away, the basic plot is a tape is out there which if you watch it you get a phone call telling you that you will die in seven days, and guess what you do. So a reporter who watches tries to figure out its past and try to solve the mystery before her time is up.
Acting: I love Naomi Watts something about her shines gold. She deserved a Academy Award last year and of course did not get it. She is stand out fantastic through out this movie, she does not draw too much attention off of the fear this movie tries to put you in. Henderson was also very good in this movie, I can't say much he did what he needed to do and he didn't suck which is good. The two of them work very well together. I seriously hope this movie launches both of them to larger range of movies and I hope I see a lot more of them.
Directing/Writing: Never mind the directors name is Gore which is just cool. He does such a great job with freaking you out. He made one hell of a good scary movie. He didn't need to use gore or violence to scare you like the Hannibal movies do or any slasher film. He uses the atmosphere and great timing to just make you slink back in your seat and feel the goose bumps all over your body. This script was very good and very well paced and the ending was just amazing. The combo of this script and this director makes the final product one scary ass movie, the scariest movie I've seen since I first watched Alien. I'm serious.
Overall: What can I say this is one of the better movies of the year. I'm glad screen writers and film makers are realizing that atmosphere and the way you pace and visualize things is a lot scarier than gore and having guys pop out from a closet or whatever. They did it in Signs and they did it in this movie and I hope the trend keeps going. I loved everything about this movie and I swear last night all I could dream about was that ring... Freaky.
