28 Days Later

Fox Searchlight presents

Starring: A bunch of Brits and I don't exactly know their names

Directed by: Danny Boyle

Plot: A powerful virus is accidently released on the British public, Within 28 days the island is almost empty. The survivors which include a man who was in a coma attempt to salvage what they can until they realize. The virus didn't just kill it made people into "rage" filled zombies. All of a sudden this movie goes from a cool concept with a great start to an insane ending which made me thankful I didn't eat before I saw the movie.

Acting: I am sorry to say I don't even know who the hell stars in this movie. I really have never seen the guy before. Or maybe I have and I just can't get the name out of my head. Since this was a big sneak preview I don't have all the information I need to give all the facts like who starred in it. Some faces I really remember from one of the guys in Gangs of New York and the bad guy from Gone in Sixty Seconds. Which I don't think is a good thing. Anyway I'll get to my review of the acting. Good job mainly by everyone I don't know they are and I think that is good. If it was Reese Witherspoon and Nick Cage on this movie I'd be laughing the whole time. Since I didn't know the actors I got to connect with characters a lot easier. The leads do a good job at being scared and confused and I could really feel for them, well until the end of the movie but I don't blame that on them. I also must note something the actors who played the zombie's..... Great Job!!! I haft to say that was the best zombie acting I have ever seen.

Directing/Writing: I really and I mean really loved the premise. That a nasty virus in unleashed and this guy in coma wakes up to find all of London empty. He walks around looking for people and it was just great I got so sucked into this movie and it all leads up with the music to this one scene which was just great, I don't want to ruin it for anyone so I won't say what it is. The man runs into some zombie's and is saved by these two people who know what the fuck is going on. The first hour of this movie is so well set up and is well paced with great scares and chemistry I was so happy. I remember thinking "People thought The Ring was scary, this will knock them off their feet." Which is true the first hour is really good and well done and pretty fucking spooky zombie wise. I think its because these zombie's don't exactly wander around like in older versions which was just funny. These can run and have blood red eyes and spit blood and just look like they have taken way too much speed or something. Really freaky shit going on there and I have to say "nice job" to whoever created them. Sadly the movie slowly goes from fantastic to insane and pointless. Boyle who directed the amazing Train spotting and sadly made the awful movie with Leo called the Beach. So I didn't know what to expect. The first hour of the movie is great but at the end Boyle decides to fill the movie with symbolism on how violent humans are and a lot of other mixed symbols and points which could work in another movie. Not a zombie movie. Now I love movies filled with symbolism and hidden meaning and stuff that opens your mind..... But when you have me sitting on my ass scaring me and leading me on with blood thirsty zombie's and then totally turn it around by having crazy stuff happen makes me mad at least. Sadly I was expecting it knowing Boyle's all over the place style at points which made The Beach really not work for me. So I think Boyle tried to put too much unique style and meaning into what could have been a really well made horror movie. The ending just has bloody violent scenes where side characters who are not the worst people in the world get killed in horrible ways and it just confused me. With guys being eaten alive by a zombie that the main character releases on them and then have someone have their eyes pulled out by a character sticking his thumbs into them... Well its a little over the top.

Overall: Warning go see this movie watch the first hour but when they get to the army base LEAVE go make up your own ending because Boyle's ending is a little too much for what he was setting up and since I saw that ending and think about this movie I just laugh. So sadly 28 days later after seeing this movie, I feel like I have a stomach ache instead of the feeling of seeing a cool movie.

Stars:** (For the zombie's of course)
