Summer 2005 is over to some that is a relief, for me it is sad. Not exactly sure when my next post will be up, hopefully soon but if not I have created a summer movie review. I hope you enjoy.

Andy's Top Five movies this summer

Not really in order but these five movies I thought were the best the summer had to offer:

Batman Begins not only was the best Batman film yet but one of the better films this year. Everything just worked, the cast was amazing and suit and car. Only problem was the shaky cam but I got used to it. This movie is one of my all time favorites now. Thank you Chris Nolan, thank you.

Star War Episode III: Revenge of the Sith how could this not be up there? I remember watching this film at a midnight showing at Century City with a theater filled with fans cheering and screaming, great experience. Say what you want about the prequels but this one was a hell of a good time. That final battle sequence will go down in cinema history I promise you.

War of the Worlds sure Tom Cruise was a bit off the wall before this opened, sure the ending sucked. Still this movie had me gripping my seats. Spielberg I thought did an amazing job creating likable characters and tripods that could scare the crap out of you. If you didn't get chills the first time the tripods made those humming sounds, there is something wrong with you.

Cinderella Man a powerful movie. With great performances all around and one powerful boxing fight this film grabbed hold of me and didn't let go. Sadly this one was over looked by many simply because it was a period piece opening during time most would expect and action film or comedy. All I know is I loved it from beginning to end.

TIE: Unleashed and Four Brothers both R rated action films that simply surprised me in how good and daring they were. I have been thinking about this for a while and I simply couldn't make a choice so they both made it.

Andy's Top Five Horrible Movies

Also not in order but all of these movies were awful: (Note I did not see a lot of movies I just knew would be horrible, like Deuce Bigalow 2, these are films I saw that just sucked)

Fantastic Four why was Tim Story the director? He made Barbershop and Taxi? Why give him one of the biggest Super Hero movies of all time? So he could make it funny? Oh it was funny alright but for the wrong reasons. Oh man never mind Jessica Alba's casting, the screen play destroyed one of the best super hero baddies of all time, Dr. Doom. That alone makes this not only one of the worst movies this summer, but ever.

The Longest Yard enough with the remakes, they suck, this one especially. I can't wait for the day when people realize that Adam Sandler was only funny in Happy Gilmore and since then every movie he's been in sucked ass. Too many reasons to list but this was awful.

Bewitched Nicole Kidman is adorable but this was just a bad idea. The movie had one or two cute moments but Will Ferrell as a romantic lead makes as much sense as casting a horse in the same role. It doesn't work. No chemistry = one bad movie.

Kicking and Screaming sorry to put two Will Ferrell movies in the same list. But if you want to watch a movie that barely can make you laugh, well watch this one. Ferrell's attempt to be funny and up tight made me up tight. Ditka barely saved this one, and I mean barely. I mean if I want to watch a remake of the Bad News Bears, I'll watch the Remake of Bad News Bears, wait a second that leads me to...

Bad News Bears funny but pointless, should have been rated R. What a waste.

Over looked movies

Here's a couple movies people missed out on this summer. I suggest checking all of them out on DVD:

Unleashed an action film with heart. I never thought I would think Jet Li could act put he proved me wrong here. One of the best action movies in a while and it completely was over looked.

Cinderella Man this was an amazing movie with great performances. But deep movies usually are over looked during the extreme summer season. I must suggest if you didn't see it in theaters get the DVD.

The Island sure Michael Bay went over the top in some scenes, but over all the movie had great style and a great story, bad advertising helped this movie being ignored at the box office.

The Great Raid a fine piece of movie making. Telling a great heroic story. Sad thing is nobody wants to watch a war movie during a war. James Franco was really good in this too. It did well on limited release and hopefully will grow on DVD.

OVER RATED FILMS

Films people won't stop talking about that were not that great:

Crash wow for some reason this movie was being praised as the best movie of all time. Totally disapointed. Acting was stale and stereotypes were the same and actually over the top. A movie selling itself to be breaking apart racism and is actually racist within itself, sad very sad.

Wedding Crashers now I liked this movie it's just Hollywood people and everyone talk like this is the biggest movie ever. First half was drop dead hilarious, and the second half simply dropped dead. Clearly funny but not fantastic like everyone keeps blabbering about.

Best Remakes

I hate remakes but these were pretty good, mainly because of directors and great casting choices:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Johnny Depp was great, and visuals were good. Still doesn't beat the original but was pretty good.

War of the Worlds another good remake but it's thanks to Mr. Spielberg otherwise with that script with lets say Bret Ratner behind the camera, it could have been horrible.

Best Car Chase

A summer is not complete without a car chase:

TIE: Batman Begins and Dukes of Hazard these two movies had kick ass car chases that used no or barely any CGI and just had fun. Even though if you ask most guys about Hazard, they probably will end up talking about Jessica Simpson's breasts.

Best Actor this summer: Goes to Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman he was simply perfect for the role and I believed he could kick my ass in that suit.

Second place: Russel Crowe in Cinderella Man for teaching how to keep punching no matter what life tosses at you.

Best Actress this summer: Rachel McAdams in Red Eye she was so likable and real that you really felt for her when the shit hit the fan.

Second place: Isla Fisher in Wedding Crashers as that crazy ass bitch.

Worst Acting performance from a male this summer: Will Ferrell for Kicking and Screaming and Bewitched seriously man get some good scripts. That crazy stuff isn't working anymore.

Second place: Adam Sandler, seriously he could never be an NFL QB, Warren Sapp would destroy him in less than a second, please.

Worst Acting performance from a woman this summer: Jessica Simpson, just because you have big boobs does not mean you can act, even though Hollywood completely disagrees with me on that.

Second place: Jessica Alba, not her fault she was casted though, she was fine but just not good for the role.

Best Villain

Who was the most evil this summer:

Cillian Murphy easily wins it with two creepy performances in Batman Begins as Dr. Crane or Scarecrow. Also being Jackson Rippner in Red Eye. Sadly the young actor might find himself type casted as a bad guy. Still great job at being bad.

ANDY'S PERSONAL FAVORITE MOMENT THIS SUMMER!!!

Seeing Bruce Campbell on screen again was probably the biggest high light this summer movie wise for me. The man is a God and his small role in Sky High was funny and memorable. Hail to the King baby.

Hope you had as much fun as I did this summer...

New Reviews:

Terry Gilliam is back with an epic adventure story, I'm amazed this movie even made it to theaters, but I'm glad it did my The Brothers Grimm review is up.

In my eyes the summer wouldn't be complete without a monster movie. Well The Cave is that movie. Remember beneath hell lies this movies lost production value, I mean the cave.

Recent Reviews:

Cillian Murphy is good at playing creepy. I had low expectations for this movie but it totally surprised me. I truthfully had a great time in this film. Red Eye is a great end of the summer surprise.

In a year where stupid comedies dominate, it was nice to see one film that actually had the balls to tell a real story and have characters. The 40 Year Old Virgin was a good time a hopefully won't be over looked by the generally stupid comedies that are out this summer.

John Singleton fans celebrate he has made another great action film. Four Brothers I think is a perfect little film to end the summer with. This is the type of action film I've been waiting for.

I was wondering when a good war movie would come out. It's been a while since one has but thankfully we have The Great Raid which probably will get lost in the shuffle of movies that are coming out. I do suggest checking this out if you have the chance.

Yet another mindless comedy this summer, but on the plus side this one has kick ass car chases which won me over easily. My Dukes of Hazard review is up.

Top Gun this is not, but the perfect summer movie is what Stealth is. Seriously do not let this one fly by this movie is what the summer is all about.

Have you ever asked where did Super-man go to school? Or, I wonder if the Ghost Rider was the bully at his school? Well its time to find out in Sky High a light hearted family film that I admit made me laugh and it has the master of all nerds in it, Bruce Campbell, do I have to say more?

I crash the Wedding Crashers which is half comedy, half romantic fluff. This movie should seriously be called the Vince Vaughn comedy blitz because he dominates this movie.

In my opinion it is very worth taking a trip to The Island but the movie length and the lack of mystery might turn some away which is a shame.

Billy Bob kills me with laughs yet again. I want Bad Santa 2!!! Anyway yet another remake is out but this one is pretty good. Bad News Bears just might be the comedy to see this summer.

I'm not really loving Hollywood's craze for remaking every movie in existence, but Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a really good treat.

I'd like to tell Tim Story it's Clobbering Time!!! More boring than fantastic this movie will leave you with a slight smile on your face, or you wanting your money back. My Fantastic Four review is ready for reading...

The most pre judged movie of all time has been released. I've seen more people online and in person try and talk bad about this movie. Sadly for them this movie was great. War of the Worlds review is up but I really suggest seeing the movie and making your own judgment.

Forget Tim Burton, forget Arnold saying "Ice to meet you". It is time to finally have a real Batman movie, Batman Begins is that movie.

March of the Penguins is a brilliant documentary which follows the birds on their epic journey for survival. This film is a must if you can find it in theaters.

Star War Episode III: Revenge of the Sith may the force be with you as you read this review...

News:

Aquaman the movie? At first this rumor I took as just fake but more and more talk seems to point at this actually happening. With James (King of the world) Cameron behind the camera? I find this impossible but hey I said the same thing about King Kong being remade again. I was dead wrong on that.

Liam Neeson or also known as Qui-Gonn Jin has beaten out Tom Hanks for the role of Abe Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's newest film the biopic of the late great President who was assassinated in 1865. Things are sure up there for Neeson his name is becoming one of bigger names in Hollywood.

I have to say Commando is one of my personal favorite films because of how funny it is. Regency Enterprises who have had a lot of success lately have now announced three new sequels. The first is Mr. and Mrs. Smith 2 already in motion. The True Lies 2 which seriously should have been made years ago. If Cameron isn't involved though God help them. The third being Commando 2 which will have Arnold returning as John Matrix. "Remember when I said I'd kill you last?"

"Yeah Matrix I remember"

"I lied" Classic.

Batman Begins 2 is being scripted as we speak and Katie Holmes is back. It seems rumors of her being dropped in the second film were dead wrong. The film now only awaits director Chris Nolan to sign on, which hopefully he will.
